TS Series Talking Keyboards Perfect for a Variety of Speech Impairments
Verbal communication is a basic element of everyday life that most people take for granted. However, for many people, vocal impairments limit their ability to engage in speech. Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods are required to enable the speech-impaired to engage in verbal conversation. TextSpeak’s TS Series talking keyboards offer a wide variety of easy to use AAC devices that serve the needs of a broad range of individuals.
The TextSpeak TS Series consists of keyboards and high-definition speakers which allow an individual to type text and have it spoken clearly and crisply by a voice generation device. The voice can be male or female and can speak in English or Spanish. Phoneme-based word creation allows the device to provide the user with an unlimited vocabulary. The product comes ready to use out of the box and does not need to be connected to a computer for use.
TextSpeak also works over speakerphones, allowing individuals to communicate via phone calls with friends and family. One feature of TextSpeak which is particularly helpful for phone conversations is its ability to preset up to 30 commonly used phrases that can be accessed through one key touch. For instance, the F1 key comes pre-recorded to say, “Hello, I cannot speak and I will be using a speech synthesizer.” F2 is pre-recorded to say, “Please be patient while I type responses.” The user can then program their own commonly used phrases to be accessed using the F-keys or by holding down the CTRL or ALT keys paired with an F-key.
Speech limitations and vocal impairments can be caused by a wide range of conditions, both permanent and temporary. These can include degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis as well as physical traumas such as a stroke or tracheotomy. To best serve such a wide variety of conditions, TextSpeak offers several different keyboard models that allow each person to choose the options that best fit their situation.
For some users, the right fit will be a standard-sized keyboard (wireless or corded), with standard-sized keys. For other users with limited mobility or visual difficulties, an oversized keyboard (wireless or corded) with extra large keys is more helpful. A portable, palm (phone-sized) keyboard is great for more active lifestyles, and can be purchased separately or paired with a standard-sized keyboard.
With such a wide variety of easy to use and portable options, TextSpeak is an ideal product to allow individuals with speech difficulties to be fully engaged at home, at work, and in social situations.
